Toshihiko (Toby) is an operating executive and internationally experienced banker, currently heading Rakuten Europe Bank as CEO. Hailing from Japan, he brings together more than 30 years of in-depth industry knowledge and leadership experience in governance, strategy, ALM, project management, product, finance, accounting, legal, and compliance.

He has filled various leading positions in the banking business and financial departments, including Head of Accounting at Rakuten Group, Inc., CFO for Viber and Managing Executive Officer at Rakuten Bank in Japan – and has successfully started up two new online banks in Japan and Europe, respectively.

Toby is fluent in English and Japanese, studied in Japan and the U.S., worked/working in Tokyo, Hong Kong (covering SEA), Tel Aviv, and Luxembourg. He holds an MBA of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a BA of the University of Tokyo.
