Francesco FERRERO is the Director of the ITIS Department at the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST), an essential player in applied AI research in Luxembourg.

 Francesco began his R&D career in 2005 at the eSecurity Lab of Istituto Superiore Mario Boella, an Italian Research and Technology Organization (RTO). Before joining LIST in 2016, he held various positions in R&D, management, and partnership development. Recognized for many years as an international expert in R&D, smart cities, and smart mobility, he co-edited a major Handbook of Research in the field. Francesco is also a highly successful Horizon 2020 project coordinator, a keynote speaker at major international events, and a member of high-level working groups in Luxembourg and abroad.
Francesco’s team launched a prototype AI Sandbox on March 20th 2024, to evaluate the ethical biases of 16 large language models across seven topics: ageism, LGBTIQ+ discrimination, political discrimination, religious discrimination, racism, sexism, and xenophobia.
